A series of innovative measures to guarantee mobility
and easy connections
The emphasis on planning for the needs of future inhabitants led us to plan
accesses to the principal communication routes in a very early phase of development,
so that mobility and connection to the metropolitan network will be guaranteed
from Day One.
Commuter Train Line (Cercanías)
The commuter train will connect Terminal 4 of the Barajas International Airport
with the Chamartín station, with two stations located in Manoteras
and in Valdebebas, next to the future Campus of Justice. The execution of
the new line, started in April 2007, is projected to be completed sometime
in 2010. The entirety of the commuter train line passing through Valdebebas
will be underground, and connection time between T4 and Chamartín
will be approximately 10 minutes.
Proposed Light Rail
When the streets were laid in Valdebebas, tracts were reserved for a future light
rail line, which would connect Valdebebas to the metro at Mar de Cristal
Station, where Lines 4 and 8 meet. At present, this possible expansion of
the network is being studied by the Community of Madrid.
Dedicated Bus Lanes
With the goal of guaranteeing effortless transport among different points in the
development, different bus lines will circulate along the main thoroughfares
that will originate at the future interchange station. There will be numerous
dedicated, separated bus lanes traveling north and south on main thoroughfares
and along the Justice Campus corridor.
Valdebebas Transport Hub
Bus, light rail and commuter train lines will converge in the transport hub, permitting
quick and easy access to the commuter station. There will also be a Park
and Ride to encourage regular drivers to use public transportation.
Bicycle Lanes
Taking cues from other European cities and using the design criteria of the Cyclist
Mobility Plan of the City of Madrid as a reference, nearly 22 km of bicycle
lanes have been created within the urban center of Valdebebas. The cyclist
network connects with the leisure bike routes in the Woodland Park, which
links up over the M-40 with the
Cyclists´
Ring Road that surrounds Madrid.
