Accessibility

Valdebebas strives to be a model of social responsibility

Since its inception, Valdebebas has focused on social responsibility, fostering the social integration of all citizens to make sure that everyone who will one day live and work in Valdebebas will be able to fully participate in all social and economic activities, regardless of age or physical capacity. In order to achieve this goal, measures have been taken to guarantee overall accessibility to the urban setting of Valdebebas.

Agreement with the ONCE Foundation
In 2006 Valdebebas signed an agreement with the ONCE Foundation for the improvement of overall accessibility of the project. This is the first time that an owners´ management board has carried out an initiative of this type. Valdebebas and Fundosa Accesibilidad, a division of the ONCE Foundation, set an objective to design all urban architecture in the development project to ensure accessibility for all citizens.

Fundosa Accesibilidad drafts plans and projects that fit in the framework of a design favoring the suppression of all types of barriers, including architectural, urban, transport and social communications. The project includes the analysis of the Urban Development Project to identify those elements that make accessibility difficult, as well as the identification of areas for improvement, such as roads, public spaces and building environments. This analysis allows Valdebebas to make the necessary modifications to ensure accessibility and to obtain the Global Accessibility Management Certificate, UNE 17001.
